- Preparation: Wash your hands thoroughly. Check the pen to ensure the liquid is clear and colorless or slightly yellow. Do not use the pen if the liquid is cloudy or contains particles.
- Attach Needle: Pull off the pen cap. Wipe the red rubber seal with an alcohol swab. Take a new, sterile pen needle, peel off the paper tab, push the needle straight onto the pen, and twist it until secure. Remove both the outer and inner needle shields. Keep the outer shield to safely remove the needle later.
- Prime the Pen (only before first use of a new pen): Turn the dose knob until you hear two clicks and see the prime symbol (two lines). Point the needle upwards and gently tap the cartridge holder to let air bubbles rise. Press the dose knob completely in to '0' and hold for 5 seconds. A drop of liquid must appear at the needle tip.
- Select Dose: Turn the dose knob until it stops and the number '1' (the full weekly dose) appears in the dose window.
- Inject: Select an injection site (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm) and rotate sites weekly. Insert the needle perpendicularly (90 degrees) into the skin. Push the dose knob all the way in and hold it down while slowly counting to 5 before removing the needle. Confirm that the dose indicator shows '0'.
- Remove Needle: Carefully place the outer needle shield back on, unscrew the used needle immediately, and discard it in a sharps container. Never store the pen with a needle attached!

Dosage and Schedule
Treatment always begins with a weekly dose of 2.5 mg for the first 4 weeks, allowing your body to adapt to the medication. After this initial period, the dose is increased to 5 mg once weekly. If necessary and under medical supervision, the weekly dose can be increased by 2.5 mg at a time (at intervals of at least 4 weeks) up to a maximum dose of 15 mg per week to optimize blood sugar levels or weight management.
